Q. Will Point of Care Testing (POCT) enable more rapid or effective diagnosis or treatment?
A. In many cases the introduction of POCT will improve the patient's pathway and experience by offering an easier to access service and a faster turnaround time for results.
Q. How will I know what is the best equipment or tests to use?
A. Oberoi will help by assessing your requirements, your facilities and logistics and then recommend the appropriate tests based upon performance, robustness and local evaluation with accredited laboratories
Q. Who will be able to perform the POC tests?
A. Only staff whose training and competence has been established and recorded should be permitted to carry out POCT. Oberoi will arrange initial and ongoing training to ensure the competency of all staff to carry out POCT.
Q. Will we need instructions for POCT?
A. We recommend having standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place. Oberoi will also provide user and training manuals which include; instructions for use, health and safety precautions, infection control information and trouble-shooting guides. These are regularly reviewed and updated.
Q. How will we know we are getting the correct results?
A. Oberoi will instruct the users in the appropriate Quality Control procedures including the use of internal quality control (IQC) and enrolment in external quality assessment (EQA) schemes.
Q. Who will maintain the POCT instruments?
A. Most POC instruments are virtually maintenance free. Oberoi can arrange comprehensive service contracts comprising, annual maintenance checks, 24 hour support and the provision of loan instruments in the event of breakdown.
Q. How do I keep records of the results?
A. Most POC equipment is able to link electronically to other computer information systems to ensure the rapid and secure transfer of data.
