The Oberoi SPAF & Case Finding Service aims to support the NHS to hit three core objectives:
- DETECT - Early detection of the unknown AF population, to ensure achievement of the target 85% detection rate
- PROTECT - Reach a minimum of 84% anticoagulation rate in the eligible population
- PERFECT - Identification of patients with AF who maybe being prescribed sub-optimal VKAs or incorrect dose of DOAC
Oberoi SPAF & Case Finding Service Overview
The service comprises a range of audit resources, developed to enable a Local Health Economy to systematically identify appropriate patients and manage the care of patients, efficiently, with minimum impact on practice resources.
The e-portal enables practices to generate a re-audit report on a monthly basis, to enable them to evaluate and benchmark their progress across participating practices, within their Local Health Economy.
“Super-users” access a web-based dashboard to evaluate the progress being made at each practice, to share best practice.
Components of the Oberoi SPAF & Case Finding Service
Searches that sit within clinical system; the numeric data generated from the searches populate the practice reports and dashboards.
Practice Baseline and Re-audit Reports - supporting the implementation of patients identified for review, while simultaneously populating a database with non-patient identifiable (numeric) data from the reports.
Local Economy Dashboards - benchmarking performance across participating practices, aligned to PCNs, Federations & CCGs.
Clinical system homepage status alerts that appear on the electronic record of patients that require further intervention.
AF Case Finding Prompts which link directly to a data entry template, to supports opportunistic early detection of AF patients, for healthcare assistants, nurses and GP.

Oberoi SPAF & Case Finding Service Delivery
The Oberoi SPAF & Case Finding Service consists of service set-up and training at practice level.
An Oberoi Service Implementation Manager visits the practice to set-up the audit resources within the GP clinical system.
Following set-up the Oberoi Service Implementation Manager undertakes the training element of the Oberoi SPAF & Case Finding service, with all of the relevant personnel within the participating practice.
The training consists of:
- A review and debrief of the reports
- Training of all the audit resources
- Using the Oberoi SPAF & Case Finding e-portal
- Using AHSN distributed Lead 1 ECG devices
All resources which support the training session are hosted on the Oberoi SPAF & Case Finding service e-portal.
Oberoi SPAF & Case Finding e-Portal
The e-portal is a web-based portal, which is accessible to users registered to participate in the service.
The e-portal has a number of functions:
- Details the audit resources which support implementation of the service, along with comprehensive training guides.
- Enables practices to upload monthly numeric audit data to generate practice specific reports.
- Comprehensive web-based reporting which enables:
- Practices to understand potential gaps in their AF clinical management and focus their resources.
- Practices to benchmark their performance against other participating practices in their locality.
- “Super-users” access a web-based dashboard to track the level of implementation of early detection, anticoagulation rates and medicines optimisation for patients across participating practices.
- Populated with local pathways and educational materials for each HCO from the AF clinical lead.

Practice Re-audit Report
Practices upload the practice data on a regular basis to generate a re-audit report to track progress of achievements to date.
Collated Baseline Report
Super users access the collated reports for participating practices to assess the level of implementation taking place.
Practices can also access the reports for practices within their own CCG, or PCN, for bench-marking purposes.
